Diagnostic is the process of identifying component or subsystem failures based on the observation of system behaviour through sensor and models. 

In modern automotive engineering, real time on board diagnostic (OBD) has grown in importance year after year and today it is a key part of vehicle SW and electronic system. Timely detection of component failures is a legislation mandatory requirement and ensures driver safety and vehicle effectiveness.

Unfortunately, OBD is still sometime underrated during development, and this may cause vehicle certification issues with significant product delay, risk of expensive field actions and in extreme cases also recall campaigns.
